A Few Goals For 2017.

a few goals for 2017 lifestyle

With the new year comes the opportunity to set a fresh new set of goals for the next 12 months. Not only does it get you feeling motivated after the lull of Christmas, but it gives you a sense of direction over the coming months. In the past, I have tried and failed at setting myself "new years resolutions", as I've had an awful habit of making them terribly unrealistic. Setting yourself unrealistic, unachievable goals is a sure-fire way to let the new year get on top of you before it has really even had the chance to begin. With that in mind, here a few goals that I'm setting myself for the year ahead that I know I can achieve with some hard work and determination.

Be kinder

In 2016, I experienced my fair share of unkindness brought about by others. Whilst it hurt me deeply, it also made me realise the often overlooked importance of kindness and being mindful of how you speak of others. I could continue to bitter about the unkindness that I experienced, or I could make it my aim to be kind and as far away from being like those people as humanly possible. Unsurprisingly, I'll be taking the latter option. Honestly, this world is ugly enough, so I certainly don't need to add to it by being unnecessarily hurtful and unkind.

Be a better feminist

One of the most important goals I've decided to set myself for the year ahead is to be a better feminist. I absolutely identify as a feminist, despite the negative connotations with the word, and in the new year I hope to delve into this more. Until now, I've never really spoken about feminist issues on my blog, or any of my social media platforms for that matter. And honestly, I'm completely done with staying quiet. I want to learn and engage as much as possible, I want to use my voice as much as I can and I want to amplify others' voices. I want to support more women and I want make more of an effort to become a better ally. Ultimately, I want to recognise my privilege as a straight, white woman and use it for good.

Share more style content

As much as I love blogging about lifestyle and beauty topics, my passion lies with style blogging. It is by far my favourite type of content to curate as well as consume, and so I hope to produce a lot more of it within the coming year. Behind the scenes, it has taken me a long time to build up the confidence to share more and more style content, as I'm far from being the most natural in front of the camera. Nevertheless, I feel as though I'm getting a lot better at it, and a large part of that is thanks to Adam as he is such a naturally talented photographer. I'm truly looking forward to working on new styles as the seasons change and improving the content I put out.

Procrastinate less

Confession time: I am the queen of procrastination. Over the last year, procrastination has quickly become my worst habit. Instead of getting on with a task that I've set for the day, I find myself aimlessly scrolling through social media for hours on end. It's a total waste of time, and I know I can get so much more done in a day if I just kick the procrastination to the curb. This year is all about getting organised and firing through my to-do list.

Improve my diet and fitness

Now, I'm certainly not about to say that I vow to start attending the gym five days a week, as I know that's totally unrealistic. And you definitely won't be seeing this gal undergoing a strict weight-loss diet any time soon. However, I am going to make it my aim to slowly but surely improve on my diet and fitness. I do intend to lose a little bit of weight, but my main aim is to improve my overall health. I know I'll have to tackle this goal in baby steps, but it's totally okay to need to start small. I hope to gradually add more nutrional foods into my diet, and begin with a few half hour workouts at home. Step by step, I can make my progress at entirely my own pace - and that's the most important thing.

Read more books

When I was younger, I loved nothing more than to pick up a good book and get lost in the literature for hours and hours on end. This not only sparked a deep-rooted love for reading, but for writing, too. In recent years, I have fallen out of touch with reading, and so this year I hope to dedicate more time to reading as it's such a wonderfully enriching hobby. I'm starting with Lauren Graham's latest release, Talking As Fast As I Can which is incredibly insightful thus far.

Start a youtube channel

I will admit, I have made this a goal of mine for quite a long time now. Nevertheless, I hope that 2017 is the year that I finally bite the bullet and start a Youtube channel. It is an incredibly daunting thought, but it is something I have wanted to do for the longest time. I have so many ideas floating around in my head that would work much better through video content than in a written format, and so I'm itching to bring them to life. I will pluck up the courage to turn this into reality.

What are your goals for 2017?
